i pissed off a big black guy on MLK day

it's true. this is what happened:

i was walking around lake eola after having lunch with jen at panera's. we met to talk about her wedding, which i'm djing. as i was strolling past the giant swans, i came across a couple sitting together on a bench. a big black guy and his girl. just as i walked past, the guy tried opening a bottle of sprite, only to have it explode on him, covering his arm and shirt with fizz (and a little may have gotten on his face too, now that i think about it.)

what else was there to do at this point but crack up laughing? it was hilarious! he glared at me though, clearly oblivious of the beautiful moment of slapstick comedy he'd just created. "you think that's funny!?!" he asked, all serious and shit. "oh, c'mon, you just have to laugh at it!" i retorted, smiling and happy. i thought he'd immediately soften up, but no. "you think that's funny!?" he repeated, this time more pissed than before.

at that point, i was thinking, "shit...he's really mad". meanwhile, his girl laughed right along with me. "oh c'mon, it WAS funny!" she said. now, thinking i'm about to get my ass kicked, i just slowly looked straight ahead, and kept walking. i never broke stride. i had my ipod on, so i couldn't hear what she was saying to him, but i hoped she was calming him down. i was bracing to be clocked from behind, but it never happened.

so, that was the most interesting thing that happened to me today, on MLK day no less, a holiday to celebrate the great life and contributions of martin luther king, jr. a day, really, when one should be conscious of how one can play his part to help race relations.

i'm glad i could help...
